We were very pleased and proud to be awarded the Peter H. Shaw award for the Lion’s District 105C best community project. This was presented at the District convention in a very blustery Bridlington last month. The convention was great fun, especially seeing all the clubs in costume at the fancy dress dinner, and it was also informative, giving us lots of new ideas we can use here in Harrogate. We were also able to thank all the Lions clubs across the District who had donated to the HELP appeal.
The award is a great tribute to all the people from Harrogate and beyond who attended events, climbed hills, ran, cycled and donated over the 10 months it took to raise the £80.000 needed.
The Tewit Youth Band gave an excellent concert in support of the Harrogate Eye Laser Project at The Crown Hotel, Harrogate on Saturday 18th January

They have performed in the Royal Festival Hall, London, Symphony Hall, Birmingham and toured Europe on a number of occasions, including Prague in 2008, and Germany and Luchon, France in 2012. The Senior Band are currently the holders and winners of the Wharfedale trophy, the Harrogate Competitive festival entertainment class and regular qualifiers for the Music for Youth Championships.
The evening was a great success and the band received a standing ovation at the end.

Special mention to the 58 Squadron Air Cadets who joined us on the round the houses routes, those who volunteered (some via Harrogate CVS), and to Ripon Land Rover for lending us a vehicle to tow the sleigh – we couldn’t have done it without all your help.
The four winning entries from Harrogate can be seen on our Peace Poster page, and very impressive they are too.
