Our Club’s Activities

We tend to group our activities in to three types – Fund-raising, Welfare and Social. We then have small teams within the club who are tasked with coming up with suggested activities under each topic. Once they have done some initial feasibility checks, proposals are put to the club so all members can vote on whether the event goes ahead. (Of course any member can make suggestions at any time, but we like using the dedicated team structure as it helps keep the Club meetings short!) Members usually sign up to a team for a Lionistic year, which starts in June, but after than may change team to extend their experience.

Examples of our activities:

  • Visit to Harrogate Fire Station (followed by fish and chips)
  • Delivering newspapers at week ends to patients in Harrogate District Hospital
  • Coffee mornings at Wesley Methodist Church
  • Re-vamp the children’s play area at Harrogate District Hospital
  • Christmas hampers for elderly residents
  • Car park marshalling at the Wetherby Lions Bike Ride event
  • Stalls at local galas


  • Provide toiletry packs to patients admitted as emergencies at Harrogate District
  • Assist Boroughbridge Lions with their Family Fun Ride
  • Transport disabled athletes so they can take part in the Special Olympics
  • Painting a workshop used by a charity providing employment for those with special needs
  • Organise theatre trip for elderly residents
  • Marshalling at the Knaresborough Bed Race to assist Knaresborough Lions
  • Provide holidays for the disabled and needy
  • Visit Menwith Hill followed by bowling ‘n burgers!
  • Collect used spectacles to send to the third world
  • Visit the children’s ward at Harrogate Hospital on Christmas morning
  • Organise lunches for elderly residents
  • Carry out diabetes screening
